This has been a "hot" weather week. Perfect beach weather. Went for a sail with
J J and a good bye barbecue for Jamie pictured above with all the kiddies. Jamie headed back to hot Florida ...Yesterday the farmer across the way was working at the hay..I have been sending in photo's to the Eastern Kings web site and yesterday it was chosen as photo of the day..WoooWoooo..Now I have to work on making photo of the month.

Last night I went down to Sandy's Beach for a cook-out with the MacCormack clan. Had a nice evening with them. The highlight of the night was a lovely fox who wandered onto the yard and was nice enough to pose for me.

Not sure what is happening today..The wind is up a bit..Colleen was supposed to be doing a treatment to the lawn to try and cut down on the mosquito population. It is a pesticide free spray..that seems to work. She said she would do it today if the wind lets up and come back a couple more times before Chelsey and the girls come. Unfortunately the first weeks in August are the time when the biggest hatch of these friggin "mud mosquito's" happens..Soooooo we will see. I just want the girls to be able to play on the lawn without being eaten alive...

Susan and Daniela are gearing up for their trip up. They will be here for a week arriving on Saturday afternoon. We have quite a few things planned already.. A trip to Charlottetown with a bunch of my friends..a drive around what is called the "Art's and Crafts loop"..and of course beach time..I am looking firward to her visit..We always have fun together..

A lovely afternoon with J J , Julie and the kids.. Then came home and whipped up a seafood chowder for dinner. The sun is starting to set in the west..I must get J J to cut down those trees that block my view! It looks like this week will bring fair weather.. Working on a new flower bed tomorrow in the AM Beaching after lunch.. Have to rebuild the shanty.. It toook a beating during a storm last week..

Saturday..home alone...

It is cool and quite windy today. I was going to head out west to Abraham's Village but I opted out and instead will head to Souris later..maybe walk the beach and look for sea glass. I have to find a bottle to put it all in too..The one I had been using broke over the winter..

The picture above is the view to the West from my window in the living room. Some folks from Vermont bought the house a few years back and have done a lovely job restoring it.

The wind is whipping from the South east today and the waves are just pounding in. I can see white caps breaking off shore on the sand bars.. It looks pretty wild out there.. But I am safe and warm in my little house. I have a book and think I'll make a fish chowder for later. Sounds like just the thing for a day like this. Rainbows...and sailboats

This double rainbow was the end of a rainy day on PEI..How beautiful is that..A double rainbow right over the beach..Yesterday was beautiful..spent most of the afternoon down at the beach..The tides were really low..the water was a bit cold..but refreshing.

Last night was the ceilidh dance at Rollobay..and of course it was great fun. My friend Donna gave me a sign for my cottage..I love it and it will soon be attached for everyone to see.

I took a walk down by Souris harbor to gaze at SHAMU..the sail boat that I love. It is in dry dock this year but it is still for sale.. They are asking $15,000..and you know when you think about it..that's not a bad price for a "house"..You could live in it..sail to warm weather and just be a "sea hobo " It is very tempting..





What do you think..maybe I can become a PIRATE.. LOL

Later today I am heading to the library for a few books I want to read..then down to the beach at Souris to collect sea glass with my friend Dawn. Not sure what else is on the plate today.

Tomorrow heading "out West" to an Acadian festival for the day..Hope the weather will cooperate. My nephew is due on the island this weekend and he always brings RAIN..LOL

Rainy day..on PEI

Headed into Souris this AM and caught up on my laundry. I went to Penny's and priced a washing machine.. THAT is the next thing I am getting..hopefully before the next visitors arrive. I have to run the drain pipes out from the house..bury them and run them out to the far left side of the property I don't want it going into the septic system..Soooo when I get that job taken care of I will buy the washer.
Julie is giving me a bunch of plants from her garden so I have to dig a new plot for them in the front yard too.. So it will be work out time again..Digging and planting..while whacking the Kingsboro bugs.. LOL

Not much else this week..kinda kicking back a bit. I have a bag of oysters for tonight..grill is waiting for them..rain or shine..The rest of the week will see a couple of dances and that;s it.

Right now I am watching the humming birds and the yellow finches at their feeders..They are so beautiful..I wish all of my friends who are traveling a safe journey..AND..everyone else a happy Wednesday..take care now stay safe..and remember

Wow , what a weekend... From start to finish it was truly one of the most amazing festivals I have ever attended. For as long as I have known the Chaisson family it has been evident that the adults have focused on two things.. First, keep traditional fiddling and dance alive and well on PEI, second..never ever think you are better than anyone..give everyone a chance to shine..

This weekend it happened. The line up of fiddlers was astounding..the greatest of the great..young fiddlers from across the maritime provinces lined up to take the stage. The song writer circles showcase the talented generations of fiddlers, guitar and piano players. From the young 10 year old boy who wowed the crowd on Friday and Saturday evening..the Deagle sisters whose vocal harmonies melted hearts, The lovely Colette Cheverie who has the voice of an angel..The Chaisson's..Peter, Kevin and Kenny..their children , nephews and nieces..Zoe Darrow from the USA..Mike Hall from Cape Breton..new fiddlers and masters..all gathered to share their music.

One of the high points was on Sunday afternoon when the fiddling legend Natalie MacMaster made her way to the stage.. She played a 1/2 hour set of tunes and WOWed us all..It was like a dream to stand there and watch her play..accompanied by Elmer Deagle who beamed with well deserved pride.



At the end of the afternoon concert on Sunday a bunch of us headed off to Charlottetown to see the one and only Gordie Sampson at the Confed Center. This year he arrived with his full band..Damn what a show..I love this guy..he is so sweet and such an amazing artist.. To sit there where I was in exact front row just off center and hear him play all of those songs as he intended them to sound..Rock and Roll..like the best of them..Too much..He just blew the roof off the place..So proud to be able to say I know him..

Got back around 11:30 and headed up to the cottage to talk..have some wine..play some tunes till the wee small hours of the morning..Monday came and went..Linda and Jude and Linda Porter headed off..The rest of us all had a big feed of mussels, halibut and oysters for dinner..visited and stayed up way too late again. Today Margie and Jim headed off in the AM..headed into Souris to meet J J and Julie and the kids for breakfast..The Darrows joined us..and stopped up at the house later to say goodbye..They head back around 4:00 on Wednesday..AM. So another festival weekend is over..time to relax again..read stare at the water..and wait for the next visitors to arrive come August..

Friday..music and friends abound..and memories of Jerry Holand RIP Jerry..

The day has started off cloudy but streaks of blue are appearing and the sun is trying... I am listening to music being played by my guests as I type this. The festival weekend has begun.. Last night was the kick off Ceilidh and the night ended with a bang up double set of tunes played by Three great fiddlers, a guitar and a piano..Just a bit of a taste of what will come . Tonight is the youth concert and tomorrow all day lessons,a tune writers circle, two concerts and a dance.. More or the same on Sunday..except we will throw in a trip to Charlottetown for Gordie Sampson's performance at the Confederation Center...

Sunshine, music, friends..nothing better. I wish all of you the very same thing..Stay safe all and remember ...

Birthday parties..and ceilidhs..

All in a day here on PEI. Yestreday we celebrated Zoe's 20th birthday.. The only candle I had was one of those jars..but we made it work..too funny. Then we headed over to St Peter's Bay and the court house for a concert with J J and Koady. Today setting up the tents for the "two Linda's" and awaiting the arrival of Jim and Margie.

Last report was at about 11:30 last night in a late arriving txt. They had run into terrible traffic and construction all the way up to 495..They left after work in NJ..so probably hit all the after wrok traffic. They hoped to be able to make it to Augusta..but never heard if they did. Nothing yet today..but of course my cell service is not working this morning.. GRRRRRRRRR..

My friends..The Darrow's arrived last night..and landed here at noon..We had mashed strawberries and peanutbutter sandwiches..for lunch and then headed to the beach.. The second we got there it started to rain..and rain and rain. But they wanted to see the shanty..so on we trudged.. I had a sheet in my beach bag and we rigged it up as a roof of sorts and kept kinda dry..Not really but it seemed like it worked.. LOL..

Little Raymond who was in the water when the photo was taken was just over whelmed..He said to me as we walked back home.. "Meg, I want to live here all the time.." He is so cute..

Barbecue tonight and then a concert at St Peter's..The sun is back now..It is pouring into the windows of the living room and feels wonderful! I just finished baking Zoe her birthday cake..I told her I'd have one for her..so that will be desert tonight..Chocolate cake and Island Fantasy Ice Cream.. YUMMY..

So my friends the visitors have begun to arrive..two more tomorrow..maybe three..and one on Friday..Paper plates from now on.. LOL

Monday..fiddle festival and visitor week....

Yes !! Last night the Monticello Ceilidh was a blast..Great music and company. It was so special to have Koady join J J on stage as his guitar accompanist. What a treat.

Today I am getting the guest room cleaned and set up for Margie and Jim. Have to pull out the tent for Linda and her daughter..and get that set up before Thursday..and the small tent up in case Zoe wants to stay here. It will be a blast whoever stays.

I may drive into Montague later I need to get the adaptor for my camera. I have so many photos I have to get loaded into this computer for all of you to see. The week ahead..looks great..filled with music from Wednesday on..Wednesday night we are heading into Charlottetown we being whoever is here and able, along with Kenny, Donna, Jamie and his brother..to see Koady and J J at the triangle club..

The sun is peeking out so maybe won't go to Montague..I have to get the shanty finished before Raymond gets here..Ahhh my work is never done..Making magical driftwood houses for magical little boys..What can be better than that???

Souris Regatta..today

Or as it is now called.."Souris Festival of the Sea".. Tug Boat races..free mussels, Queen of the Sea contest, tug of war contests..and more. Going into Souris any way to pick up some supplies so probably will head down to the wharf to check it out.

Yesterday I tried to find my friends but didn't know what beach they were at..Came back and sat on my deck for the afternoon instead.. Just as nice..I can stare at the water..Last night barbecued oysters and wine.. New potatoes, a hamburger and salad..for the main course..why does everything taste so good up here???

Not sure whats up for this evening..Have to check with the gang. Sunday the regatta again in the afternoon and Monticello in the evening..

Nonstop up here...Next week I will await Margie and Jim's arrival and The Darrow's. Fun begins on the 14th!!!

Skipped right over Thursday..

Yesterday was kinda busy..Did laundry in the AM..went to the market..then beached it after lunch. It was a beautiful day..the water was warm..tide out while I was there. The evening brought company for dinner..J J, Julie and the kids. Then we headed to the Ceilidh..Picked up my neighbor Waldron and boogied to the Rollobay field. Good crowd..lots of fun..great music..

Today, beach after lunch..with my book, my blanket, and my sun screen.. I am opting for dinner out tonight..Not sure where yet..Maybe..The Blue Fun, or Ship Wreck.

The weekend will be used to get ready for visitors next week. Margie and Jim arrive on Thursday..The Darrow's on Wednesday..Linda Rankin on Friday..Lots of other folks will be in town but not here..Vic, Derrick and Melody..not sure who else will land..Maybe Nathan, you just never know. Festival starts on Thursday night..lots and lots of amazing people will be here. Natalie, Ashley, Kimberley, Mac, Andrea, Troy, J J, Tim, Elmer, Zoe..good grief and that is just a few. I think Peter may have to make it last for a few more days just to get everyone on stage..

Sunday Gordie Sampson's show at the confed center..I'm exhausted..NOT REALLY..It will be a non stop BLAST..

Soooooo going to put up my bird feeder now. Trying to entice some of the lovely finches who are living in my apple orchard..I love to watch them. Humming birds galore this year..They are fun to watch too. Last night..the full moon was amazing

What a lovely sight..The full moon reflected on the ocean.. It is without any doubt the most amazing part of living here. I just love it.. I was up about 3:30 this morning..and again was dazzled with a site of the moon. This time as the sun was rising in the east..the moon was still well up in the western sky..and as the sky turned a pale grayish shade of pink..the moon was glowing like a giant opal. What a sight..It was beautiful.

Today the sun is out it is still a bit chilly but I think it will warm up enough for the beach this afternoon. Tonight heading to the Triangle Club in C'town..to party a bit with Julie. Looking forward to it..we always manage to have a few laughs..actually we have a lot of laughs.

This morning I hope to have a visit with Eddy Quinn..who said he would stop in for a bit. If he doesn't show his face before 10:30 I am heading into Souris to do a bit of laundry. I can't wait to get my washing machine..I don't mind going to the Laundromat..but I can find better things to do with my time. So this summer I got my grill which I had wanted for about 15 years.. I will put in my patio which I have wanted for 5 years..I will hopefully build the deck on the West side of the house..and I WILL GET A WASHING MACHINE.. I had to check with Donnie about how to winterize them ..but it's pretty easy..so there you go. No more excuses.. : )

SUN...the sun

Last night I went into town to see a movie with Donna, Julie, Peb's and Whitney.. It was great..sad sad sad..But women love sad movies.. : ) And I discovered that I can play videos on this laptop sooooooo I plan on renting a few later today.

Just came in after J J removed the tree the roof. It was quite a show..But it's done and cleaned up. The sun is coming back and long range forecast for warming temps and sunshine through the weekend. Heading to Souris later to get supplies..not sure what else. Tomorrow night heading to town to hear J J play at the Triangle Club. Should be a good time.

Tonight JJ and Julie are coming for dinner..May crank up the new barbecue for the event. We'll see.

Fiddle Festival is just down the road and it is going to be a goodie..I think just about anyone who is in the maritimes will be here.. Can't wait..

Monday, Monday..trust it????

Today the sun is shining..the sky is Sapphire blue. The wind has turned and is blowing from the Northwest. That means cool weather. I'd guess it is around 50 degrees outside at this time. It's 9:30 Canada time at the moment. Hopefully J J will come by later and we can get the tree cleared off the roof of the old house.

Yesterday I took a long walk on the beach..sat on the sand for a bit and watched a family of piping plovers who are nesting near my stretch of sand. They are almost extinct..so here on PEI we do everything possible to protect the nests. Areas are roped off to keep people away..and the nests are covered with a protective fence..that is positioned in a way so that only the birds can enter.. They are tiny grey and white shore birds..very sweet ..The babies are due to hatch within the next two weeks..I hope to have photos to share. Last night was the first Ceilidh of the season at Monticello..J J is hosting them this year.. There was quite a nice crowd..without any real advertising.. I told J that I would make up posters and put them around the camp grounds and stores for him..That is a job for me this week...

I have to pick up a new memory card with an adaptor on it so I can download my photos into this laptop. It is annoying me that I can't do it now. I like to show you all what I am writing about. So when I get it.. I will be editing these notes. Remember to check back.

Later today I am going into town.. (Charlottetown) with a bunch of my friends. We are going to see the movie " My Sisters Keeper" a real down right, without a doubt, "CHICK FLIX ,TEAR JERKER" Can't wait!!

Aside from that I have to get busy writing a press release for the paper back home to let people know about the concerts in the fall. I hope to get that sent off before the end of the week. Just back from breakfast with..J J , Julie, the kiddies, Donna, Kenny and Whitney. Great meal great conversation. Later today will be the Ceilidh at the lodge in Monticello. J J is running it this season..It should be a great time. I am handeling the door and concession stand.

Tomorrow J J is coming over with his chain saw and dump truck and we will work at getting the tree cleared away from the old place. Then fix the roof. Tomorrow night heading into Charlottetown with a bunch of my buddies to see the movie.."My Sister's Keeper"

Big storm here last night

Wow what a night..an amazing storm came through..Lightning..thunder..rain and wind like I have never seen. Got some amazing pictures. This morning I looked out the window and saw branches on the roof of the old house.. Took a walk back with my neighbor..and went up stairs to be greated by a branch right through the roof in one of the back bedrooms. Good grief.. Have to borrow a chain saw and get it off the roof and repair the roof before more damage it done.. But maybe I'll find the hidden money.. LOL People keep telling me that the original owner " Iver Stewart" hid money in the walls of the place.. now I can take a look..

It isn't badout again today..every thing is wet and a lot of branches are down.but no rain..and I think the sun will be out before mid day. I have a few chores to do then I plan on going out to dinner with J J and the kids..

Friday...

So all of you down in the US are getting ready for a nice weekend of fireworks, picnics and fun. Up here I am staring at the water, reading, going to dinner at The Blue Fin tonight and hanging with J J and the kids. Have to catch up with Kenny and Donna later and make a run into Souris to get the stuff I forgot yesterday.

That is about it. I have to pick up an adapter for my camera so I can down load photos. I got some sweet shots of Ella and Brady this morning. Ella is still a bit shy but she's coming around. Brady is adorable..All smiles and giggles.. He is crawling and into everythng he can grab. CUTE!!!!

HOME AGAIN!!!!!!!

Arrived here last night about 8:30 later than usual beause of traffic at the border. The ride was fine..no prob;ems at all. Today went into Souris for supplies and to see J J and Julie.. SO GREAT to see them and Ella and Brady.. They are sooooo cute. This was an exciting day for the Chaisson Clan of Souris.. Their mini home was sold recently and today it was towed away to it's new resting spot out near Sheeps Pond. I went up to see the place for one last time.. It was kind of sad to see it all empty and up in the air..being put onto the back of a tractor trailer. Little Ella wasn't at all happy about the idea. She can't quite understand what is going on. But her new house will soon be here and she and Brady will love it. The new place arives mid August.. Till then they are staying at Julie's Mom's place not far from me at all.
